The Jio Institute is located in Navi Mumbai which was established by the Reliance Industries Ltd and Reliance Foundation. It is a multidisciplinary higher education institution that aspires to improve research efforts and foster an entrepreneurial and innovative culture. In 2018, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, released a letter of intent to establish the Jio Institute as a Greenfield Institute under the UGC (Institutions of Eminence Deemed to be Universities) Regulations.

Currently, the Jio Institute offers postgraduate programmes only. Admission to Jio Institute courses is granted by an entrance examination administered by the institute.
